Charlton Medium Table

Charlton Medium Table

Design Details

Curve Appeal: The gracefully rounded, arched ends of this table are more than just a design choice they’re a blend of practicality and warmth. By softening the edges, we eliminate the risk of sharp corners, making it safer and more inviting for everyday use. This arched-end feature really enhances the sense of connection around the table. The curved ends allow seating to flow seamlessly from one side to the other, encouraging conversation and fostering a communal atmosphere, where everyone feels included. It’s a design that’s as thoughtful as it is beautiful.

Easily Moved and Stored: The Charlton Table is
built with dovetail-linked legs, blending timeless craftsmanship with modern convenience. In 17th and 18th-century England, dovetail joints were a mark of skill and status, showcasing the artisan's precision and adding value to the furniture. More than just a decorative feature, the interlocking design gave these joints unmatched strength, allowing tables to endure for generations. The Charlton’s legs follow this tradition but with a modern twist: they’re removable and lock securely back in place with just a couple of simple screws, making the table both sturdy and easyto disassemble when needed. It’s a perfect marriage of heritage craftsmanship skills and everyday practicality.

Authentic and True in Every Detail: Unlike some more unscrupulous makers who use breadboard ends to hide cheaper materials in the centre of the tabletop (trust us - it happens more often than you'd think), our design stays absolutely true to our principles. We craft our tables from solid ash planks that run the full length of the tabletop—no shortcuts, no filler. Each
plank is joined with a classic farmhouse-style V groove, a detail rooted in 18th and 19th-century rustic furniture.

Made to tread lightly: Charlton features our signature tapered fine square legs which not only give it a sense of lightness and elegance but are also a practical solution leaving a more generous seating space around the table and removing unnecessary weight from the piece.

Made to repair: The Charlton always comes with our signature natural foot detail whether you choose painted or natural finish. A routed section a little way up the base of the leg demarks where the paint
finishes. The bottom section of the table leg is then always left in the natural oil. This is a deliberate decision to ensure the most easily damaged and marked part of the table can always be quickly and simply repaired and reoiled.

A matter of balance: Every leg is fitted with our simple but ingenious levelling corks. These help protect the table legs from damage, the floor from any possible marks and scratches and offer a quick and simple adjusting solution for uneven floors. Whilst most manufacturers use hard plastic feet to this end, we knew there must be a better way. Henry’s cork and penny solution is one of our proudest innovations – a simple, sustainable solution that will work forever (and is of course much more fun to replace!)

Drawing inspiration from an 18th-century Dutch design, the Charlton Table is our most historically rooted piece, carrying forward the spirit of European farmhouse craftsmanship. Its arch-ends create a natural flow for seating, encouraging easy conversation and connection. The slightly narrower tabletop enhances this communal feel, while still offering enough space for place settings and room for plenty of serving dishes along its centre. Crafted from naturally oiled ash, or with custom painted details on the apron and legs, this table blends heritage and style in a way that feels fresh and inviting.

The Charlton Medium Table seats 6–8 comfortably and pairs perfectly with our Small Coates Benches and Kiln Carver Chairs. Alternatively, it makes a spacious 6-seater with our Kiln Dining Chairs.
