Rassal Medium Dining Table

Rassal Medium Dining Table

Design Details

Arched for Success: This table is the sole pedestal design in our collection, where the top's weight is supported by a central point beneath the surface. This unique structure allows the edges of the tabletop to remain completely unobstructed. To achieve this, Henry incorporated a contemporary archway into the design, utilising an architectural keystone solution for supporting large spans while maintaining elegance and stability.

Crafted to Every Joint: This table showcases expert carpentry techniques that really set it apart from mass-produced designs. The top of each base is secured with rabbit joints—simple yet highly effective for strong, durable connections. Additionally, the diagonal stretcher rails feature loose tenon (lap) joints, with a discreet screw at the bottom for added stability. By using these traditional joinery methods, we minimise the need for metal screws, with only 10 screws required to hold the entire table together. This approach aligns with our Gather ethos, focusing on reducing material waste and embracing the craftsmanship of traditional woodworking techniques.

A matter of balance: Every leg is fitted with our simple but ingenious levelling corks. These protect the table leg from damage, the floor from any possible marks and scratches and offer a quick and simple adjusting solution for uneven floors. Whilst most manufacturers use hard plastic feet to this end, we knew there must be a better way. Henry’s cork and penny solution is one of our proudest innovations – a simple, sustainable solution that will work forever (and is of course much more fun to replace!). On the Rassal these corks are deliberately left partially visible on the foot detail, so you can really understand the workings of this neat solution.

Made with an edge: As this is one of our largest foot print table tops, to avoid an awkward catch when navigating it, the top has distinctive chamfered detail at each corner. This clean cut subtly references the gothic revival inspired base. The top itself is completely smooth and clean in order to be as understated and simple as possible. It’s a sharper design than other tables in our collection, created to be subtlety impactful.

Celebrating negative space: So often great design is as much about what is not there as what is… This deceptively large table feels light and delicate in the room due to its subtle arched construction. The narrow lines of the arches beneath the tabletop also make it a great colour carrier, as the lack of heavy surface area means you can be bolder on your colour choice without it dominating the space.

Inspired by the geometric beauty of Gothic Revival and Radical Modernist architecture, this table takes cues from the iconic roofline arches of Coventry Cathedral, a space that deeply resonates with designer Henry.

The elegantly designed arches allow for a clear, uninterrupted floor surface, eliminating the need for awkward stretcher rails across the base. The top is always crafted in naturally oiled ash, while the arched stretchers and columned legs can be customised in a variety of sophisticated colourways to perfectly complement your home’s style.

The Medium Rassal seats 6-8 comfortably. It is slightly wider than other tables in our collection and is designed to have head of table settings, so it works perfectly when partnered with a Kiln Carver Chair at each end and either four Kiln Dining Chairs or two Medium Coates Benches on the long sides.
